Friendship is based on God

- JANINE MOODLEY janine.moodley@inl.co.za

AFTER meeting on social media four years ago, Ouvesha Rabinund Moodley and Alice Sibiya, both from the Bluff, have become best friends.

Moodley, 33, who runs an advertising business, said Sibiya had messaged her on Facebook to help with donations for the Blind and Deaf Society.

She described their friendship as crazy, loving and supportive.

“I always say we are Freaky Friday. I’m more black than she is, and she is more Indian than I am.

“We just vibe, and I love her company. If ever anyone has made me laugh in the past four years, it’s her. I would never want to lose a friend of her calibre.

“The most special thing about us is our love for God. Our friendship is based on our love for Him.”

Moodley said despite having busy schedules, they try to meet at least once a month.

“The best moment was when I met her. She called me before I saw her, and I thought I was going to meet an Indian aunty. When she finally introduced herself, I couldn’t stop laughing that she has an Indian accent and I don’t.”

Moodley said she loved how real Sibiya was.

“She is so herself and full of joy. There is never a dull day with her around. She is seriously the funniest person I have met.

“We dance every time we see each other. She would do an Indian dance, and I would hit a vosho. I think that’s the highlight of our friendship.”

Sibiya, 28, who works for a water meter company, said her friendship with Moodley was unique and fun.

“In terms of race and public expectations, Ovi is me, and I’m her. If we are at a party, I would be dancing to

Desi Girl, and she would be dancing to

Sister Bettina.

“Our friendship is balanced with advice, religious growth, fun, love and business support.”

Sibiya said she admired Moodley’s strength and confidence.

“She is always willing to help anyone. If she isn’t able to help, she will find someone who can.”
