Fuel your car and yourself
FILL UP, says a petrol station. Not only can you now refuel your car, you can also fill up your own belly.
Yes, a garage in Johannesburg has been granted the first liquor licence to sell wine to thirsty motorists.
Drink and drive happily on our roads. How convenient and thoughtful.
Of course, from a business point of view it makes sense. Business is all about sales and profit. Everything else – health, safety and the environment – can go to hell.
Drunk-driving is one of the major contributory factors for the carnage on our roads. This was seen clearly during the lockdown.
When alcohol was banned, there was a sharp drop in trauma patients admitted to hospitals.
But as soon as the ban was lifted, hospitals were flooded with road accident victims.
It sounds so contradictory. You ban alcohol to ease the burden on hospitals during the pandemic but grant liquor licences to garages?
