Amla will not return to domestic cricket
THE Western Province Cricket Association announced last week that Hashim Amla would not be returning to South African domestic cricket. Despite retiring from international cricket in 2019, the Proteas legend continues to play professionally and starred for Surrey in the English County Championship earlier this month.
One can’t hold this against Amla. Given that he is now 38 and only has a short time left in the game, he needs to make decisions which are beneficial to him.
AmaZulu show resolve in CAF Champions League
After losing their CAF Champions League first preliminary round against Malawian side Nyasa Big Bullets two weeks ago, Benni McCarthy’s AmaZulu showed tremendous fortitude to recover and hammer the Malawian giants 3-1 away from home last week. Usuthu have now advanced to the second preliminary round of the competition and will play African giants TP Mazembe in a two-legged play-off next month.
Chelsea, Liverpool, Man United shine
Chelsea, Liverpool and Man United are all locked on 13 points in the Premier League after winning four out of their five Premier League games to date.
Chelsea and Liverpool are firing on all cylinders so far. While United appear to have improved, they are proving to be overly reliant on Cristiano Ronaldo. Since his grand return to Old Trafford, Ronaldo has scored in all three games he has played for United.
If the Red Devils want to be title challengers this season, they will need to ease the workload on the 36-year-old.
Meanwhile, there has been some resurgence from Arsenal following their disastrous start to the league campaign. The Gunners looked like relegation fodder in their opening three losses of the league campaign but have appeared more structured while recording backto-back victories over Norwich City and Burnley.

Virat Kohli will step down as the captain of India’s T20 team after the coming T20 World Cup and of the Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL franchise after the resumed Indian Premier League.
The decision will ease the burden on the 32-year-old and allow him to focus on his batting as he enters the last stage of his cricket career.
