It’s party time

A FEW New Year’s celebrator­y events are still set to take place in and around Durban this year.

Remember to mask up, sanitise and social distance. Also, with Covid protocols often amended, call and check with venues before you head out. At the time of going to print these events were still going ahead:

Outdoor/ beach parties:

● The Smoking Dragon New Year’s Eve Festival (the Northern Drakensber­g)

This annual event takes place from December 31 to January 2. The event promises a wide variety of musical genres.

The likes of Jack Parow and Simphiwe Dana will perform along with an array of other indie-folk, maskandi, jazz, hip hop, and Afro-fusion artists.

The electronic acts include Chunda Munki and TiMO ODV, and sounds that range from world, dub, house to techno, drum-and-bass, and trance.

Craft and food stalls will be available. There will also be yoga, massage and tattoo artists available.

The VIP zone will have a private cocktail bar, swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna on offer. Tickets must be booked. All lodge packages include tickets. Call 082 551 2495.

● GibaFest New Year’s Edition 2021 Giba Gorge Mountain Bike Park, Pinetown has, together with Southern Lights Events, put together a family event to usher in the new year. Some acts include Jaco The Surf Broerie and Matt The DJ.

A kids’ programme has been planned, which includes a mini drum circle, small hike, face painting, ball games and more. Tickets include a food and drink voucher. Dinner parties:

● New Year’s Eve Dinner

The Oyster Box Hotel in uMhlanga will host a New Year’s Eve celebratio­n. The event features cocktails, dinner and entertainm­ent. There will be a band, a DJ and a showgirl performanc­e.

The party will start at 7pm on December 31. It will be hosted at The

Ocean Terrace and The Grill Room. Prices range from R3 200 per person to R1 900 for children under 12 years. Prices will include a five-course meal and a few drinks. For more informatio­n, call 031 514 5000.

● New Years Eve at The Chefs’ Table Enjoy live entertainm­ent from Matt Gardiner.

A compliment­ary welcome drink on arrival, followed by a four-course menu for R1 295 per person. Bookings are essential. R500 deposit per person in order to confirm your booking.

Free-flow bubbly all night, live entertainm­ent and a threecours­e meal. The event will take place on December 31 from 6pm to 11pm. Tickets cost R1 050, and are available at Quicket. Stage:

● Barry Thomson and The Reals – The Fleetwood Mac Story

The Fleetwood Mac Story is an episodic saga that spans more than 30 years, starting in 1967 as a British blues band that later became a California-based pop group in the mid-70s. The band will

cover the hits of Fleetwood Mac. The event takes place until December 31 at Rhumbelow Theatre. Tickets are available at Computicke­t from R180 to R280. Call Roland Stansell at 082 499 8636. ● GO BIG!

Aaron Mcilroy and Lisa Bobbert perform

their newest comedy Go Big!

Directed by Daisy Spencer, the show will takes place until December 31 at Rhumbelow Theatre.
