No shame at all

-

SOUTH Africa didn’t send anyone to the Winter Olympics, but we did have a contest for the position of Chief Justice which was as entertaining as anything Beijing had to offer.

After much drama, the Judicial Service Commission recommended that President Cyril Ramaphosa appoint Judge Mandisa Maya to the position. She currently serves as the Supreme Court of Appeal president.

One of the unlucky candidates for the job was Justice Raymond Zondo, the current deputy Chief Justice and the man who headed up the state capture inquiry.

During the interviews, he told the Judicial Services Commission that his findings on state capture were based on evidence.

“If there is enough evidence that justifies a finding against the president (Cyril Ramaphosa), that finding will be made. But no finding will be made against the president if there is no evidence that justifies it. Just as with regard to former president Zuma, when I’ve made any finding against him, I have done so when there is evidence, but where there is no evidence, I will not make any findings against president Zuma.”

In the two reports released so far, Justice Zondo has pointed out the wrongful acts of several individuals and recommended some of them be prosecuted.

Yet, despite the evidence against them, not a single person accused of wrongdoing has apologised. It is clear that they are not just delusional, they are also lacking in decency.
