WATER FINALLY RESTORED IN UMZINTO FOLLOWING VIOLENT PROTESTS:

◆ Denise Parasuramen Murugan Rajman: So, people had to burn and protest just to have their basic needs? Wow. We are doomed.

◆ David Chinnappen: This is the new form of communication. Things get done.

◆ Zarina Ally: We in Trenance Park, in Verulam, have no water for 13 days. In 13 days it came on for only an hour or two between 2.30am and 3.30am, and 4.30am and 5.30am. It's difficult, especially with this heat.

◆ Vashika R Naidoo: Water is a basic need. To survive a day without it is difficult enough, I can't imagine a whole month without it.

◆ Chantal Govender: So, people must protest to have basic needs? What’s happening in this country? Corruption is playing a vital role in all of this. It’s about time society stands against these corruptors. We pay taxes for this government to provide us with our needs. Besides that, we pay for our basic needs so why can’t they provide? Why can’t they maintain infrastructure on time to eliminate problems?

◆ Marlene Chetty: So, that’s what we got to do for basic needs!

◆ Yougendran Mervin Reddy: It’s awesome (that they got water) but why after the folks had to throw a fuss? That’s nonsense.

◆ Sivvy Govinder: Please let us not adopt violence. We are basically not a violent race.

◆ Viresh Ramnarain: Well, violence got things done.

GUNMEN WERE TRIGGER HAPPY, SAYS UMZINTO PROTESTER:

◆ Seema Allopi: Where’s this security company when they’re burning the universities, roads and buses and stoning and looting trucks, etc? Soft targets?

◆ Gerry Chapman: Well done, security.

◆ Robby Solomon Pillay: Try living a month without water and then say: “Well done, security.”

◆ Clarence Miranze: I was once caught in a crossfire when I passed an area without electricity and people started stoning my car. People should know that when they protest, criminal elements will take over. So it’s important to embark on a protest that targets the responsible people and not end up with innocent people suffering damages.

◆ Viresh Ramnarain: Take them (the security company) up. They can get into trouble with Psira (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority).

◆ Suraj Raghubar: Shooting at soft targets is a no-no. Kids shot, that’s not acceptable.
