Crash kills young father

CAMERON Naidoo had planned on taking the day off work to celebrate his daughter’s second birthday on Wednesday. Instead, his funeral was held at weekend.

The 23-year-old from Westcliff in Chatsworth was travelling on the N2 last Tuesday afternoon when the vehicle he was travelling in allegedly went off the road, crashed into a barrier and landed in a riverine bush.

Naidoo, who worked for a courier company, was a passenger and died at the scene, along with the driver.

Naidoo’s wife, Caroline, said her husband and his colleague were returning to Durban from Umgababa after work.

“We are not sure what happened, but Cameron was going to be dropped off at home. We are now waiting for the police to provide us with information. This will bring us some closure as to what happened that day.”

She said they had planned to take their daughter out today (March 16), and later they intended having a party.

“We were going to get a cake and invite our immediate family to our home. Cameron and I planned to have a big party on Saturday. He was looking forward to the day. My husband loved to spend time with family and friends.”

She said Naidoo, who would have turned 24 on April 11, also had plans for the future.

“He was business-minded and planned on opening a grass-cutting business with his brother-in-law. But all those dreams have been dashed.

“We will honour and keep his memory alive because our daughter needs to know about her amazing dad and how much he loved her.”

Naidoo’s funeral was held at the Mobeni Heights Cemetery on Saturday.

Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, a provincial police spokesperson, said a case of culpable homicide was being investigated.

The second deceased’s family could not be reached.
