Safa Chatsworth to host annual Easter tournament

-

SAFA Chatsworth will host their annual Easter football tournament from April 15-17.

This year’s edition of the tournament will aim to kickstart football in Chatsworth after the prob lems and complications caused by the Covid pandemic over the past two years.

There will be at least 32 teams competing in the Cup section and a further 16 teams in the Bowl section.

Safa Chatsworth chairman, Nelson “Sphinx” Kuppen, said that the event has been sanctioned by Safa Ethekwini and he expects it to be one of the biggest football events in the province.

In the past, the tournament hosted at least 32 teams and Kuppen said that they are not limiting the number this year to promote football amidst a lack of activity in recent years.

“Fans will be allowed to watch matches in eight to 10 soccer fields around Chatsworth. Covid-19 safety protocols of 1m distancing and wearing of masks plus sanitising must be observed,” said Safa Chatsworth deputy president Paddy Perumal.

Perumal said that he expects a high level of football to be played at the tournament, pointing to the successes achieved in past editions.
