Rotary Club’s selfless service benefits communities
THE Rotary Club of Reservoir Hills was chartered on March 27, 2005, and celebrated its crown birthday on March 27.
The club has become a well-recognised body in the community, offering humanitarian aid to individuals and families. This is done not just within the community of Reservoir Hills but surrounding ones as well.
The club is part of an international service organisation known as Rotary International. Its aim is to bring together professional and business leaders in the prospect of providing humanitarian assistance and further peace and altruism throughout the world.
The crown birthday was commemorated with rotarians, spouses and their children. Tribute was paid to the club’s history and projects. We also remembered past presidents and ex-rotarians and recognised their contributions.
The club, currently under the presidency of Desmond Govender, has much to celebrate.
In addition to the achievements, the support to individuals, families and communities during the Covid19 pandemic was met with warmth and appreciation. Over the years, the club has embarked on many projects, including the Reservoir Hills Crisis Care Centre, the Reservoir Hills Satellite Police Station, the walkway at the crematorium, jungle gyms and peace gardens at primary schools.
The club was instrumental in funding boreholes – one in a rural community used for a vegetable garden that sustains the community.
At regular intervals throughout the year, a database of 120 individuals who are either terminally ill, unemployed, or impoverished, receive food hampers. The club pledges its ongoing support to uplift the lives of children, youth and adults through targeted projects.
Special acknowledgement and appreciation is extended to our sponsors, donors and supporters of our annual fund-raisers, without whom we would be unable to do what we do. Here is to many more years of selfless service.
