Crack down on ‘illegals’
THE recent gang rape of eight South African women has the country shocked and reeling from such a dastardly deed.
The alleged perpetrators are the illegal miners also known as zama zamas. The community in the Kagiso area are incensed and are on the warpath to eliminate this apparent scourge of illegal and undocumented foreigners.
It seems that the unfortunate community members have been at the receiving end of crime being committed by these armed foreign nationals. The communities maintain these crimes have been ongoing for the past few years with law enforcement doing little to protect them from being robbed and raped.
The question is, how were these zama zamas allowed to establish themselves in South Africa illegally without government intervention? The government has failed its citizens in both law enforcement and border control.
Another question is how these zama zamas access these discontinued mining operations. Surely the mining companies that made billions from harvesting mineral resources from South Africa are obligated to close the mine apertures and get a closure clearance from the Department of Minerals and Energy?
Every time there is a major catastrophe related to criminal activities we see law enforcement making their presence felt after the disaster, which could have been prevented in the first place.
There have been many calls from irate South Africans that enough is enough.
One wonders if anything will be done for these desperate pleas from helpless citizens.
