THE family of Bradley Singh protested outside the Magistrate’s Court opposing bail for his alleged killers.

In November 2022, Singh was stabbed to death during an alleged robbery, metres from his home in uMhlatuzana township, Chatsworth.

Singh, 38, was on his way to work. He was a machinist for a shoe manufacturing company in Jacobs.

While walking along a pathway to get a lift to work he was held up and stabbed multiple times in his head and upper body. He was robbed of his shoes, cellphone and lunch bag.

He died at the scene.

A neighbour found his body facedown on the ground and alerted the community, who contacted the police.

After months of investigations, Bayview SAPS detectives made a breakthrough in the case and arrested his wife, Lauretta Ramrathan, and her alleged boyfriend, Zale Wendel Leo Brock. Ramrathan, 29, and Brock, 39, were charged with murder.

They appeared in court on Thursday and the matter was adjourned to Tuesday, where they were denied bail. The matter has been adjourned to April 14.

Singh and Ramrathan had two children together.

Rooksanah Dawood, Singh’s sister, said: “We are happy the accused was denied bail.

“We feel this will bring us one step closer to getting justice.

“It took a lot of strength and courage for us to stand outside court and protest because it has been a traumatic time for our family, my brother’s children and his friends.

“We hope the court is able to see how his death has impacted on ourselves.”

Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, a provincial police spokesperson, said police were investigating a case of murder

“At the time of the incident, the motive appeared to be the robbery as the deceased’s cellphone and bag were nowhere to be found. As the investigation progressed, information surfaced that the victim’s wife and her boyfriend were involved in the murder.

“They were arrested by Bayview SAPS detectives.”
