Humiliation is name of the game

- T MARKANDAN Kloof

CAN you believe it, Man United torn apart like a rag by Liverpool? Humbled, humiliated, ashamed, dejected, disgraced Man apart!

An embarrassed Man United left Anfield with their heads down when they suffered their biggest loss in almost a century at the hands of their arch-rivals, Liverpool.

It was way back in 1931 when Wolves thrashed them 7-0.

A resurgent Man United having just won their first trophy since 2017 went to Anfield riding the crest of the wave. Everyone expected a tightly-fought, thrilling contest between the two arch rivals.

But it was a completely one-sided affair as Liverpool soon showed their dominance and blew United away.

Four-nil was bad enough for United but 7-0 was an absolute disgrace. Marcus Rashford who has been in scintillating form recently was nowhere to be seen on the ground.

“But how could it happen to Man United?” was on everyone’s lips. And how are they going to lift up their heads again after such terrible humiliation?

It was usually the other way around, Man United dishing out a high scores to other teams. It was unthinkable that this time they would be on the receiving end of a 7-0 thrashing.

To rub more salt into their wounds, their women counterparts thrashed Leicester City 5-0 in the Women’s Super League. Man United manager Erik van Tag faces a huge task in getting their players back on the feet.

But Liverpool were in seventh heaven. It was their biggest win against their long-time enemy. I am sure their players themselves were in disbelief. The Red Devils were not performing very well recently.

They had suffered a defeat to Real Madrid who beat them in the Champions League at Anfield.

But this magnificent show against Man United should boost their morale and make them challenge for a place in the top four.

The humiliation of Man United will silence their fans who have always

been a raucous bunch in the past. They would have had nightmares on Sunday night.
