FATHIMA Haffeejee, 35, never returned home after leaving on May 6 for a job interview.

The mother of two was last seen in Parlock, Newlands West, where she lives.

Her husband, Mubeen Haffeejee, 42, said: “She was meant to be going to an interview for a sales assistant role on that Saturday.

“I believe a friend of hers told her about the job opportunity and even reminded her in the morning.

“She left the house on foot, didn’t make it to the interview and never came back.”

Haffeejee said no one had received word from her since.

“Not a single family member has heard from her. We are all worried about where she could be right now.”

He said their financial situation was dire.

“Fathima wanted to find a job so she could help out more at home. She would constantly call or message family and friends to assist her with work.

“We are struggling financially as a family. We have two boys, aged 10 and 15, whose school fees need to be paid.

“Food prices also continue to rise and we’re battling to provide when we have nothing.

“We also have rent that we are barely able to afford. We are just grateful that we have an understanding landlord because things are really tough for us.”

Haffeejee, who is self-employed, said he takes on any available jobs that he gets.

“It’s not consistent work. My focus is glass and aluminium work but I do repairs as well.”

Haffeejee said he had opened a missing person case at the police station in Newlands East.

“It feels like we’re alone because no one is providing us with any updates. Since I opened this case, I’ve received no developments from the police or even search and rescue teams.

He said his wife’s absence was worrying for the family and that they were not coping.

“Our sons are so young. They shouldn’t have to deal with this. They have their whole lives to live and I don’t want this to negatively impact them.

“They’re crying for their mom to come back home. I’m trying my best to be there for them but it’s really hard. Our family is missing her a lot."

At the time of publication, Fathima had still not been found.

Police did not comment by the time of publication.
