We want action, not empty words

- DHAYALAN MOODLEY Mobeni Heights

THE president’s visit to Chatsworth as part of a by-election campaign did not go (down) well with the residents. The electricity crisis is posing to be a catastrophe in that the ANC government itself does not have any viable solutions.

We want action, not words. The famous quote by Abraham Lincoln is so true: “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time”.

It’s true scores of members swapped their shirts, donning black, green and gold T-shirts. Seeing the president is all an election tactic.

It seems some people can't see beyond their noses.

Load shedding is here to stay for a very long time. Despite the president trying to address the issue of the power crisis in Chatsworth, it was only an update of his old empty promises, he did not do take any pertinent, specific action, for example time schedules for implementation.

With the possibility of facing higher stages of load shedding, it is a national crisis, and will negatively impact social and economic sustainability.

It is time for Eskom’s stranglehold on the country's electricity supply to be brought to light.

The lid needs to be lifted so that we can unearth the rot that exists within the internal and external components of the power utility. Public-private partnerships must be fast-tracked and municipality capacity strengthened for the distribution of electricity.

The power of some individuals on Eskom is alarming and the actions are not in the best interest of the citizens of our country.

The ANC has degenerated and has lost its morality. If this does not happen we are doomed.
