Rhodes honour for Sooliman
RHODES University conferred an honorary doctorate on Imtiaz Sooliman, the founder and head of the humanitarian aid organisation The Gift of the Givers, on Friday, adding to the three he already has.
Tshwane University of Technology, the University of KwaZulu-Natal and Durban University of Technology have previously honoured him.
According to Sooliman, the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University will confer a fifth doctorate on April 13 and the University of Fort Hare another on May 11.
“These honorary doctorates show recognition for the work we are doing and in turn it helps us to get better support and more help.
“It’s great to get support from academic institutions because it also promotes social responsibility among students and staff. It motivates and inspires them at other personal and social levels and not just academia,” said Sooliman.
He told POST that the organisation remained hard at work, sourcing and distributing water to drought-affected areas around the country.
