Woodview double success

-

THERE were double celebrations for the Woodview United under-13 side after the SAFA-Phoenix outfit achieved a league and cup double for the second consecutive season.

In addition to winning the PSF KO Cup and their age group division, Woodview United went through the league campaign undefeated.

“Defending the league and KO Cup for the second consecutive year was great, and the cherry on the top was winning the league unbeaten,” said coach Anesh Deepchand who focused on a basic development programme for the club’s juniors.

He added that their under-9 and under-11 sides performed reasonably well, and that the under-15 unit took third spot in their league.

A boost for the club is that they have adopted the Woodview grounds from the Parks and Gardens department. The facility regularly hosts the SAFA-Phoenix under 7, 9 and 11 games. The ground and the surrounding area will be under the control of Woodview United in conjunction with Parks and Gardens, said Deepchand.

The club is already planning ahead for next season. Players from under-7 to under-17 who wish to join the club next year can contact Jay Govender on

082 611 3883 for 2018 registration details. The club usually trains on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm to 6.30pm.

Meanwhile, the KZN Football Academy will host trials to unearth the next generation of young stars for the under-13 to under-19 age groups.

Trials will be held on different dates next month for the various age groups at the Berea Rovers club in Jacko Jackson Drive. The dates are December 12 (players born between 2000 and 2001), December 13 (20022003), December 14 (2004-2005) and December 15 (2006-2007).

For registration at 8am players must carry their birth certificate or identity document. Contact the academy through their website http://durbanu19.co.za for further details. – Sport Reporter
