NHI Draft Bill is a dictation, violation of human rights

Post - - OPINION - VENOLIN GOVENDER Pietermaritzburg

I HAVE recently followed the letters and articles on the National Health Insurance (NHI) and I see that the blame is shifted mostly towards the private medical practitioners and hospitals.

Firstly, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi is so sure the NHI is the way that this is rather misleading to the public.

His draft bill should be immediately stopped as he is not asking for public participation in amending health Acts but rather enforcing them.

Little does our honourable minister of health realise that he needs to amend the constitution first, before anything.

Each and every person has the right to choose what healthcare and what healthcare user facility they want to utilise. It is not for the minister to decide what healthcare I utilise or force me to utilise NHI.

The minister should apply the NHI only in the government sector as he cannot enforce it on private healthcare.

The other astonishing fact is that, if you are on a medical aid scheme, you will have to also pay for NHI and your medical aid.

The other fact is that tax subsidies on medical aid contributions will no longer exist.

Now this clearly is fraud at its highest and legal extortion. An individual pays tax on his salary and on his medical aid. He does have the right to claim his tax subsidies contributions.

This clearly is an outline that citizens who pay taxes and medical aids for their families will be ripped off if and when NHI is enforced.

NHI is an enforced healthcare system which violates citizens’ rights. It is fraudulent in its own making and is a system that will just not work.

The minister and government cannot force citizens to utilise this system. It is rather authoritarian. We do have our right to a good healthcare and the minister has no right to enforce this upon the working class.

The public healthcare must upgrade itself before trying to compete with the private health sector.

I do feel this system is a failed system and the funds will be mismanaged. It is just another way some person will make a fortune at the expense of all.

Private healthcare is worked for by the working class.

It works and please leave this alone.
