Crazed fanfare welcomes release of Vijay movie
DEEPAVALI 2018 is the celebration of Vijay’s Sarkaar.
The release of a Vijay movie is greeted with crazed fanfare and it is the sole objective of every fan to secure a ticket for the first day first show (FDFS), whether in California, Croydon or Chengalput.
The fans wear paraphernalia, carry banners and take the craziness further to even perform an abhishegam (a ceremonial bathing) for the movie poster, to clear any negativity and to ensure a successful run.
Such will be the colourful scenes in countries throughout the world where fans will start queueing from the night before for the early morning show.
Here in South Africa, Vijay enjoys a phenomenal fan base especially among the youngsters.
Given the plot of the movie, the award-winning direction of AR Murugados and the music of double Oscar winner AR Rahman, expectations of Sarkaar are massive.
Vijay shares screen space for Sarkaar with Kollywood’s current sensation, Keerthy Suresh.
Varaluxmi’s inclusion in the movie makes for added interest after her brilliant performance in Sandakozhi 2.
However, Vijay’s Sarkaar is not without controversy.
Varun Rajendran, who accused AR Murugados of plagiarising his story, has taken the matter to court.
It has been amicably settled with the makers of the movie agreeing to acknowledge Rajendran in the movie’s credits
Another Deepavali release is Vijay
Anthony’s Thimiru Pudichavan, a Tamil/ Telugu bilingual action drama directed
by Ganesha.
Thimiru Pudichavan also stars Nivetha Pethuraj and Balaji.
Music score is by Anthony, who is banking heavily on this movie for his rankings because his most recent ones
(Kaasi and Kaali) were failures at the box office.
Anthony’s decision to release his movie alongside Sarkaar is indeed brave, but he says that the story of Thimiru
Pudichavan centres around Deepavali, hence its release at this time.
The movie is bankrolled by his wife, Fathima.
Yesteryear actress Savithr’s biopic
Mahanathi has been selected for the 49th International Film Festival of India to be held in Goa from November 20 to 28.
Mahanathi is the only mainstream movie from the South Indian movie industry to be selected.
It starred Suresh and Dulquer Salman in the lead roles.
Veteran actor Sivakumar is one of the most respected artists in the industry.
The father of actors Suriya and Karthi, Sivakumar is also an erudite Tamil scholar and graces many platforms speaking on Tamil literature and its hoary history.
Recently, the actor came under much criticism for knocking a mobile phone off the hands of a fan seeking to take a selfie with him.
Criticism snowballed online with many celebrities also wading in.
Mounting pressure resulted in Sivakumar expressing his profound apologies and regret.
Actress Tanya Ravichandran, the granddaughter of yesteryear actress Ravichandran, has been roped in to star opposite Sibiraj (the son of Sathyaraj) in a movie titled, Maayon.
Directed by Kishore, this action adventure movie will have music by maestro Illayaraja.
Tanya was last seen in Vijay Sethupathi’s Karuppan in a meaty role where she garnered good reviews for her performance.
The Telugu song, Inkem Inkem, from the movie, Geetha Govindam, is the most viewed song in South India thus far this year, undoubtedly because of its amazing picturisation and the soul-stirring presentation by Sid Sriram who has a sound carnatic background and now works as an R&B songwriter, singer and performer in California.
Debut
Madhavan, the chocolate boy of Kollywood, made a stunning debut with Manirathnam’s Alaipaayuthe in 2000.
Since, he has gained the respect and adoration of many in the industry through his hard work and impeccable off-screen reputation.
Madhavan is also one of the very few actors who has a massive pan Indian appeal. He now turns director for his upcoming movie, Rocketry – The Nambi
Effect, a biopic on former scientist S Nambi Narayanan, who introduced liquid fuel rocket technology, while he was in charge of the cryogenic rocket project.
Madhavan plays the protagonist in the movie and co-directs with national award-winning director Ananth Mahadevan.
