Teen accused of stealing aunt’s lychees

- – POST Reporter

A DURBAN teenager accused of stealing R450 from his aunt’s lychee business was released on a warning in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The 19-year-old was arrested after his aunt realised at the end of the work day that R450 had been unaccounted for, and had blamed her nephew, who worked for her.

However, he disputed the amount, saying only R80 had been missing.

“I told her that one of the customers must have taken a bunch without paying for it. I was only R80 short, not R450,” he told the court.

He said he earned between R100 and R120 a day.

The case was adjourned to January 21 for further investigation.
