Get Second Citizenship

It’s never been more alluring to South Africans to diversify and invest in offshore property, as such an investment offers insurance against political instability and economic risk.

The European Union is by far still the preferred property investment destination as Europe is the world’s largest single market and global trading block, and offers many opportunities.

By buying property in Cyprus – an English-speaking, ex-british colony and full member of the European Union and Common Wealth – the investor will secure either a second passport or acquire permanent residency permits for themselves and their family.

Cyprus is also the only country in Europe offering investors the opportunity to secure permanent residency permits in four to six weeks for three generations of the same family – including dependent children up to age 25 as well as both the parents and parents-in-law. There is no requirement to buy in Special Designated Areas (SDAS) nor to physically live in the country, and the investor can rent out the property to earn a Europe-based income. No other country offers this.

The Citizenship Through Investment programme is also unique. It is the only programme where citizenship is granted in three months, and all dependent children up to age 28 qualify. Securing Cypriot citizenship gives the investor and their family visa-free access to more than 169 countries in the world and complete freedom of access to the whole European Union – including the United Kingdom. This means that everyone can live, work, study, and travel anywhere in Europe with no restrictions.

Cyprus is very appealing as the country offers a lifestyle very similar to South Africa, but the cost of living is a fraction of what it is in South Africa; yet the lifestyle is first-world with English-speaking universities and world-class hospitals and medical centres.

South Africans tend to favour Paphos on the Western side of the island, as the topography is similar to the Western Cape. There are wine estates, golf courses, lush agricultural belts, and it is a 40 minute drive to the mountains where it snows for three months of the year.
