A Piece of Wellbeing Heaven

I do not like gyms – the exercise machines are often lined up too close to each other, the overcrowded bathrooms often have very little to no amenities (you better remember your own towel), and many gyms have an impersonal atmosphere where gym-goers have to try and work the machines and hope for the best.

Then I arrived at MYUTOPIA in Greenpoint, Cape Town. And my feeling did not change. I do dislike average gyms, but I love MYUTOPIA – a place to exercise, yes, but in a contemporary, relaxed setting where you can do so much more.

Focusing on personalised experiences, MYUTOPIA has a range of classes for patrons. For those that want to spend 45 minutes to an hour unwinding and stretching away work stress, there are slow paced yoga classes; for intense stretching and toning workouts, there are Pilates and Power Yoga classes; and for those who prefer high intensity training, there are Tabata, dance, and HIIT classes.

The studios where the classes are held afford fabulous views of the surrounding city and some of Table Mountain, and an accent wall features a natural scene, adding to the overall open and soothing atmosphere of the establishment.

Before you enter a studio to begin an exercise class, a staff member is there to provide you with a towel and bottle of water. Upon exiting, you receive a cold towel to refresh.

The locker room at MYUTOPIA is a haven in itself – clean swept showers, fluffy towels, deodorant, cotton rounds, and hair ties make this a bathroom you will actually like making use of. And, if you are going back to work or have an event after your workout session, the Blow Dry Bar at MYUTOPIA is available to assist you in looking your best.

For a pick-me-up, breakfast, or lunch, the Nourish Café provides coffees, smoothies, a range of breakfasts, and lunches made from fresh, nutritious ingredients.

MYUTOPIA is not a gym you have to force yourself to go to – the space is so that you want to spend time there. Because of this, tables, chairs, and Wi-fi accommodate those who arrive early, or want to stay after their class, to catch up on emails.

Going above and beyond the norm, MYUTOPIA offers the services of an in-house registered dietician, a nutrition consultant, chiropractor, and shiatsu therapist.

Everything at MYUTOPIA was developed according to what would make clients the most comfortable, so that exercise is not a chore, but something that you can look forward to. During my week at MYUTOPIA, I found myself looking forward to each class, and every moment spent at this piece of wellbeing heaven.
