1 Vergelegen Sauvignon Blanc 2016, Stellenbos­ch

On the nose the wine displays hints of tropical fruit, but unlike a lot of other Sauvignon Blancs, it is more elegant than upfront. The palate is crisp with notable minerality and freshness leading into a lingering, graceful finish.

2 Blue Owl Unwooded Chardonnay 2017, Coastal region

When the Riversmeet farm was acquired by the owners of Allée Bleue, they were very impressed by the amount of bird life on the farm. The highlight being the owls that lived next to the river. This wine has notes of white peach and lime on the nose. The mouthfeel has some racy acidity which leads into an easy, enjoyable finish.

3 Essay Chenin Blanc 2017, Coastal region

South Africa, being a new world country in wine terms has more liberal wine laws that allow the blending of any selection of grape cultivars. This Chenin blanc is enhanced with a hint of Viognier and Roussanne grapes. You will find a fresh and fragrant style with hints of quince and honey blossom leading into rose petal notes. The wine has a soft and elegant finish.

4 Allée Bleue Starlette Blanc (Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc) 2017, Franschhoe­k

The winemaker, Van Zyl Du Toit, was originally from the Swartland and grew up in a winemaking family. His wines have been highly regarded and rewarded in recent years. This blend is very expressive on the nose with notes of fresh peas and gooseberry. The palate is racy, crisp, and very refreshing.

5 Jordan Black Magic Merlot 2014, Stellenbos­ch

The soil where these vines are grown is very rich in Black Tourmaline crystals that ancient magicians used for protection. The Jordan Black Magic Merlot has a complex nose with hints of red fruit intertwine­d with hints of cedar wood. On the palate, the wine crescendos with a long, lush, and complex finish.

6 Stellenrus­t Shiraz 2016, Stellenbos­ch

This wine was matured in barrel for 12 months. On the nose the wine has a combinatio­n of plum, coriander, and cured meat. On the palate it has some smoky notes with a good savoury finish.

7 Hoopenburg Bush Vine Pinotage 2014, Stellenbos­ch

This wine was matured in French oak barrels for 10 months. The nose has notes of dark fruit and also upfront banana bread nuances. The palate shows initial fruit that leads into a robust tannin structure.

8 Thelema Mountain Red 2014, Western Cape

This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Grenache, Shiraz, and Cabernet Franc. The wine spent a total of 18 months in barrel. On the nose there are some notes of blackcurra­nt and sour cherries complement­ed by some Chinese spice. The palate delivers on what was promised on the nose and has a juicy long finish.
