All of us could use a bit of opulence in our lives, and the Opulent Living Concept Store & Gallery situated on 24 Kloof Street in Cape Town aims to bring touches of luxury into the lives of their patrons.

Besides paintings and sculptures from both well-established and upcoming South African artists on display, unique and luxurious lifestyle items are available and presented in a distinctive shopping experience.

“We are excited and proud to present this from handbags and jewellery to selected fashion items, colourful kaftans, and opulent gifts – all under one roof to tickle the fancy of the discerning customer,” says co-owner, Barbara Lenhard.

This concept seems to work, as the Opulent Living Concept Store & Gallery has established a great reputation since the opening in November 2016 – it has developed the status of a “must-go-to” store in town.

With a focus on accessible and authentic luxury paired with personalised service in the art, lifestyle, and travel sectors, the Opulent Living Concept Store & Gallery specialises in contemporary art – predominantly by South African artists – as well as artisanal products from small, trusted local suppliers.

All items are personally sourced by owners Barbara Lenhard and Florian Gast, whose focus is on curating a selection of the best of what artisans in Africa have to offer. “My vision was and is to create a unique shopping experience,” explains Lenhard. “We showcase the ‘finer things in life’ while offering a down-to-earth approach to luxury and – very importantly to me – real value for money.”

Lenhard’s passion for the beauty in life began at an early age, at the same time as her recognition of how important hard work is. “I appreciate the finer things in life because I work hard for them. I grew up in a very downto-earth family and, with a father who was self-employed, I learned the importance of a solid work ethic from an early age.”

The German-born business woman goes on to say, “I don’t believe my customers need to break the bank in order to afford luxury. Granted not everyone can afford an original artwork, but they can invest in a limited-edition print. Likewise, they can embellish an outfit with a simple but sumptuous cashmere scarf, or a one-ofa-kind necklace. It’s about investing in a quality product that will stand the test of time.

“My ultimate aim is that every customer leaves my store loving what they have

purchased. And I’m proud to say that since we opened, I’ve only had one customer return to ask for an exchange.”

Every visit to the store offers something new, and there is a convivial atmosphere in the glamorous space where customers are treated as valued guests and friends. That is even more evident on Saturday mornings, when anybody entering the store gets offered a chilled glass of bubbly. In fact, Lenhard’s passion for bringing people together is legendary, and the Concept Store & Gallery has also become known for its exclusive events, including Art and Designer Evenings, where guests get to mingle with other discerning shoppers and talk directly to the artists and designers behind the unique products on offer.

“All our items are of the highest quality, and I so love welcoming guests who appreciate their provenance, and the passion of the team that curates them,” says Lenhard.

Customers can expect to discover a selection of exclusive items in various price ranges from some of South Africa’s most talented designers.

In store is the newly acquired COCO D’AFRIQUE designer handbag range. The company offers the finest leather handbags, designed in France and handmade in South Africa to the highest international standards. COCO D’AFRIQUE is determined to grow the market share of its high-end accessories and deliver on its brand promise of honest quality so that all – from farmer to retailer, and customer – benefit. As a result, the Opulent Living Concept Store & Gallery is very proud to have the brand on its shelves exclusively.

Thrilled with the success of the Opulent Living Concept Store & Gallery, Lenhard and her team are excited to continue to showcase the very best products to their clients – continuing to add a touch of opulence to their lives.
