There is a quote that states: “Of all the books in the world, the best sto­ries are found be­tween the pages of a pass­port.” It is un­cer­tain who said this, and I am also not sure of the ac­cu­racy of this quote – as there in­deed ex­ists some pretty as­ton­ish­ing, in­tel­lec­tual and en­light­en­ing lit­er­a­ture out there – but I will take it. How­ever, for South Africans, visa re­stric­tions can put a damper on things, espe­cially if you want to ful­fil your wan­der­lust with a spon­ta­neous in­ter­na­tional adventure.

Ar­ton Cap­i­tal re­cently up­dated its world­wide pass­port in­dex, and South Africa ranks as num­ber 47 on the list with a visafree score of 94 – an im­prove­ment on the 90 coun­tries open to South Africans in 2017.
