Suzuki has shaken up the local entry-level market with its new S-presso – at R134,900 now the most affordable new car in South Africa costing some R10,000 less than a Renault Kwid and Suzuki Celerio, and over R27,000 less than the entry-level Datsun Go model. According to the Japanese small-car manufacturer the S-presso condenses all the best Suzuki characteristics in a compact and affordable package. Five models are available with two transmission options. It has a bold design, with a Mahindra-esque four-slot grille and large S-emblem, squaredoff halogen headlamps and large air intake and bumper at the front. The 3.56-metre long S-presso has a 2.38-metre wheelbase and a ground clearance of 180 mm, thanks in part to 14-inch steel wheels. All models feature colour-coded door handles and side mirrors, with a choice of six bright exterior colours. The premium S-edition model receives silver highlights and extra cladding, and all models can be further customised. The S-presso three-cylinder 1-litre K10B engine, shared with the Celerio, offers 50kw and 90Nm of torque. It drives the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) with Automated Gear Selection (AGS) technology. All models feature two airbags, reverse parking sensors, ABS and EBD, while GL+ and S-edition models also receive an in-built reverse camera. All models are sold with one year’s complementary insurance, together with a two-year/30,000km service plan and 5-year/200 000km mechanical warranty. The GL+ manual is available for R139,900 and the GL+ AMT for R152,900, with the S-edition MT priced at R147,900 and the top-line S-edition AMT at R160,900.
