Eight Paradoxes of Business success
Learning from the best at bizhq
Following years of business and executive coaching, bizhq CEO Greg Mason has identified key values that contribute to business success. Interestingly, many of the values contradict each other. bizhq has embraced these paradoxes as the organisation’s core values. Collaborative Ownership
The first rule of business is that you cannot do it on your own. Successful businesses need a cohesive team with an aligned vision. On the flip side, without personal ownership and accountability, things fall through the cracks. It is about finding that balance. Stable Change
In business, and in life, if you are not changing, you are not growing. The key is to manage slow but consistent change with control and sustainable strategies that ensure that change does not create uncertainty, chaos, and instability. Uncomfortable Comfort
Most business owners are searching for the sweet spot, where the business happens on autopilot with no stress. The danger, however, is complacency. Successful businesses are only comfortable when they push themselves out of their comfort zone. Balancing Tight and Loose
The key to good business practice is to have discipline, firm policies, rules of the game, and processes that are adhered to, but also the wisdom to know when to be flexible, adaptable, and accommodating. Illogical Logic
You think in a certain way, and that certain way gets you a certain result. But if you are looking for a different result, logically, you need to be open to different ways of thinking that may seem unnatural or illogical to you. Work Hard, Play Hard
What is the point of working yourself to the bone if you are not achieving your personal goals and, ideally, having fun in the process? Successful businesses love what they do, and their customers love working with them. Your business needs to facilitate what makes you and your customers happy. Less Talk, More Action
Successful teams communicate well. They meet regularly, share ideas, plan together, and ensure that everyone is consistently on the same page. However, discussions need to result in actions with deadlines to achieve goals. Planned Intuition
No goal can be achieved without a plan to get you there. Plans give you structure, focus, and a course of action to follow. However, sometimes you have to trust your instinct and do what feels right.
