1 Alvis Drift Signature Chenin Blanc 2020 (Michelangelo Double Gold 2020)

Alvi’s Drift takes its name from the low-water bridge across the Breede River, linking the family farm’s two sides. Only free-run juice is used, and cold fermentation of the juice ensures maximum flavour retention. Star bright wine with tinges of lime green. Charming aromas of white peach, blossoms, melon and citrus. A crisp acidity, which is balanced beautifully with ripe fruit following through on the palate, is embraced by a soft creamy texture and a long refreshing lime character finish.

2 Riebeek Cellars Sauvignon Blanc 2020 (Michelangelo Gold 2020)

Warm conditions of the Swartland encourage a tropical style of Sauvignon Blanc. Elegant hints of guava and pineapple are expressed initially. These tropical aromas follow onto the palette with accents of minerality and crisp freshness complimenting the juicy fruit. A light dry finale leaves you wanting more.

3 Blue Owl Chardonnay 2020

The Blue Owl range, produced by Allée Bleue was inspired by a beautiful owl that lived in the wooden roof rafters of an old barn when the Franschoek farm was acquired. This unwooded and approachable Chardonnay is made in a fresh and zesty style, packed with winter melon flavours, apricot nuances and a gentle citrus aftertaste. The palate is silky smooth with an outstanding balance of fruit and finesse.

4 Jordan Black Magic Merlot 2017

The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of Merle, the French name for the blackbird. At Jordan Wine Estate in the Stellenbosch Kloof, the Merlot vineyards are based on Black Tourmaline-rich granite which darkens the soil, leading to perfumed, inky wines. The Black Magic Merlot is partly whole-berry fermented, capturing unique flavours of red plums and dark chocolate. French oak maturation accentuates the fruit and luscious, velvety tannins.

5 Boland Cappupino Ccinotage 2020 Pinotage (Michelangelo Gold 2020)

A coffee style Pinotage is a uniquely South African innovation. A combination of well-toasted barrels and ripe Pinotage fruit creates a wine style that has richly layered coffee and chocolate flavours. Bold and outspoken the aromas announce themselves, caramelised, coffee, chocolate and bacon kips.

This wine may entice from the start and is comfortable taking centre stage.

6 Stellenrust Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Stellenbosch, Bottelary Cabernet Sauvignon is quite distinctive, and this is a classic example. Black currant, cigar box and lead pencil follow from the nose to the palate. Dark berries with accents of minty character believed to be brought on by thousands of Eucalyptus trees found in the area. Elegant and well balanced, this Cabernet Sauvignon would accompany any red meat dish with ease.

7 Silkbush Shiraz 2016

The name Silkbush is translated from Sybasberg, the highest peak above the vineyards. Grapes are harvested from a single vineyard block high above the Breedekloof Valley. Dark and rich in colour, the bouquet offers spice, white pepper and red cherry. Flavours of fynbos, pomegranate and liquorice enhance the charm of this wine, with a long, voluptuous finish.

8 Mischa Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Reserve 2018

Mischa estate was the first winery in South Africa to graft, grow, and create wines all on one estate by using Nutrition Farming Methods. The award-winning wines are produced from grapes grown on ancient soils in the Voorgroenberg region of Wellington. This warm climate encourages well-ripened fruit, creating alluring dark fruit aromas of plums and mulberries and complemented by a hint of sweet vanilla derived from American oak barrels. A classic dry finish with a lingering aftertaste.
