‘Office design linked to health’

Pretoria News Weekend - - NEWS -

GETTING your own office is generally seen as a good sign for your career, but research suggests it could be bad for your health.

The study looked at data from 231 state employees at four sites in open-plan offices, cubicles with highwalled partitions and private offices.

Participants wore heart sensors and physical activity monitors, which captured the intensity of movement for three consecutive work days and two nights.

Open-plan workers clocked up a fifth more physical activity than those in cubicles and 32% more than those in private offices. Open-plan staff had lower stress than those in cubicles.

Workers in private offices were the most stressed. – Daily Mail
