THE first long weekend of the festive period is finally here, and the weather will not disappoint, the weather services have said.

Warning that heavy rains were expected across most parts of the country, meteorologists yesterday said those who remained in the capital could relax, and expect perfect, sunny long-weekend weather conditions.

They said this was the perfect time to visit Pretoria and experience the capital city’s exceptional holiday destinations.

“Residents can only expect cloudy conditions for all three days, but it will be warm to hot and definitely not stay-indoors weather,” said SA Weather Service forecaster Victoria Nurse.

Nurse said a 30% chance of late-afternoon isolated showers and thunderstorms were predicted for all three days of the long weekend.

“Temperatures on Saturday are expected to reach a minimum of 34°C, and for Sunday, 33°C,” she said.

And Monday will also be hot, with maximum temperatures expected to hit the 32°C mark. “We’ll keep the country updated on weather conditions. People must follow weather forecasts on the radio and television.”

Where it rained, people had to be careful when outside as freak storms had become a norm, and when it was hot, it was important to keep cool and hydrated, and out of direct sunlight, she said. |
