Two taken in for murder of city butcher
POLICE have arrested two men in connection with the murder of a Pretoria butcher who was shot dead by a gang of armed robbers last year.
Two men, aged 21 and 23, were arrested at the weekend by members of the Bronkhorstspruit trio task team.
Pieter Woest, 56, was shot in the back after seven robbers entered the Klipeiland Butchery, outside Bronkhorstspruit, in October.
The two men are believed to have been part of a gang that entered the butchery posing as customers.
It is believed that Woest ran out from an office in another building to investigate after he heard shots, and encountered at least three gunmen.
As he turned back, they shot him twice in the back. The robbers got away with R40 000. Woest died on the scene.
Police spokesman Johannes Jafta said police were still investigating and were confident that they would soon make another breakthrough, eventually arresting the rest of the gang. – Lesego Masemola
