Reinach storms into Rugby World Cup history
HARD to believe one could make history at the Rugby World Cup and not know about it, but that’s what Springbok scrumhalf Cobus Reinach did against Canada at the Kobe Misaki Stadium on Tuesday.
Reinach, 29, scored the quickest try hat-trick by an individual at a World Cup when he needed just 20 minutes to cross the whitewash thrice in a 66-7 victory for the Boks.
The bonus-point win secured a quarter-final spot for South Africa, and also reminded Bok coach Rassie Erasmus of Reinach’s talent.
The No 9, who was left out of the Boks’ World Cup squad in 2015, made up for lost time with a classy display against the Canadians.
“I was just happy with the tries, I was trying to get my heart rate down so I wasn’t counting anything,” he said.
Erasmus added: “Everybody knows Cobus’ X-factor. The moment he sniffs some space, he’s got exceptional speed.”
