Mt Ever­est: Women rev up for huge task

THE FIRST all-women African team to climb Mount Ever­est will soon be mak­ing its way to Nepal to pre­pare for the chal­lenge.

Alda Wad­dell – from Pre­to­ria – Lisa Ger­ing, Deshun Dey­sel and Tumi Mphahlele are all ath­letes and climbers and will be as­sisted with lo­gis­tics by Ron­nie Wuhl of Ad­ven­tures Global. They are spon­sored by K-Way and were given spe­cial all-in-one suits to wear.

The four climbers are do­ing in­ten­sive train­ing to help pre­pare them to work to­gether, and plan to be on the moun­tain next month and sum­mit in April.

The climbers com­pleted the Nine Peak Chal­lenge, which in­volves as­cend­ing to the high­est point of each prov­ince in South Africa. They also went to climb Mount Aconcagua in Ar­gentina and Mont Blanc in the Alps last year. |
