TWO men have been arrested for allegedly stealing diesel from a Transnet pipeline in Delmas in Mpumalanga, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said.

The two were arrested after Transnet security guards spotted a diesel tanker with eight men next to it, Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said.

The suspects ran off after they realised that they had been spotted, but the guards managed to arrest two men, one of them allegedly the tanker driver.

“A further search yielded no further good results for the security guards, despite being joined by the (Hawks) serious organised crime investigation team, the Delmas SAPS, Witbank SAPS and Flying Squad.”

Officers seized a 20 000-litre diesel tanker and two small generators.

One generator was connected to a hose to extract diesel from the pipeline. |
