Jack Welch dies
NEW YORK: Jack Welch, the former powerhouse chairman and chief executive of General Electric, has died aged 84, the company said.
Welch reigned over the company from 1981 to 2001, vastly expanding its empire and wealth, making him a legend in the corporate world in the Ronald Reagan-era and beyond.
However, the company became too difficult to manage at its outsized levels and in recent years has been trimmed back. “There was no corporate leader like ‘neutron’ Jack. He was my friend and supporter, ” said President Donald Trump, using a nickname Welch earned in part because he cut jobs.
