MARGINAL DECLINE IN S AFRICAN BULK EXPORTS
BULK EXPORTS declined marginally year-on-year (y/y) in February, while the number of full export containers increased. As yet, there seems to be little disruption due to the global coronavirus pandemic, although iron ore exports – most of which go to China – did show a y/y drop in February. Bulk export volumes fell by 4.1 percent y/y in February after a 3.3 percent rise to 173.4 million tons in 2019, according to ports data released by Transnet National Ports Authority. The number of full containers exported grew by 14 percent y/y.
