Rus­sian data­base: Twit­ter loses ap­peal

MOSCOW: The Ta­gan­sky District Court of Moscow has dis­missed an ap­peal against a 4 mil­lion rubles (R877 000) fine over Twit­ter’s fail­ure to com­ply with the obli­ga­tion to store Rus­sian users’ data in the coun­try, a Sput­nik cor­re­spon­dent re­ported yes­ter­day.

On Jan­uary 31, Rus­sia’s com­mu­ni­ca­tions watch­dog Roskom­nad­zor filed law­suits against Face­book and Twit­ter for fail­ing to timeously pro­vide in­for­ma­tion on the lo­cal­i­sa­tion of Rus­sian users’ data­bases. On Fe­bru­ary 13, the court fined Twit­ter and Face­book 4 mil­lion rubles each.
