Another successful weekend crime blitz by Mountain Rise Saps

43 arrests were made for various offenses over the weekend during Mountain Rise Saps' crime prevention operation.

The operation is part of the station's ongoing efforts to address and curb various crimes from taking place in an around the policing area. The crime prevention operation began on Friday, March 25 and carried on until Sunday evening, March 27. Various hot spots areas that were contributi­ng to serious crimes were targeted in the policing area.

A total of 43 arrests were made for the following offences: Breach of peace, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft, possession of drugs, attempted hijacking, violation of protection order, possession of unlicensed firearms, dealing in drugs, dealing in liquor, murder, possession of suspected stolen property, drunken driving, rape, attempted murder.

During the first phase of the crime prevention operation, police members focused on stop and searches, as well as dangerous weapons and firearm related crimes, raiding of illegal liquor outlets, compliance inspection on illegal liquor outlets and operation, as well as blue light patrols in the hot spot areas.

The second phase of the crime prevention operation focused on roadblocks at strategic points in the Mountain Rise policing area. Station commander, Brigadier Boxer Pillay stated that these type of operations positively result in the reduction of serious crimes in the hot spot areas. He further went on to thank and appreciate the officers and members for their positive way in which the operation was conducted.
