DA revokes councillor’s membership following investigation
The Mountain Rise Community Policing Forum (CPF) held a lunch to honour the women of the Mountain Rise Police Station last Thursday.
Umgungundlovu District Commander Major General Nozipho Madondo shared a message of encouragement with the female members.
“We are like the Proverbs 31 women. We are strong women in our faith in God. We take our battles to God, on our knees, when we pray. We serve others with love and purpose. We take care of everyone and all the children in our areas. We feel the pain of seeing a child without clothes as mothers. Before we serve as SAPS, we serve our community as members first,” said Madondo.
Chairperson of the CPF Sham Govender said the lunch was held to strengthen community relations.
“We want to build relations with the community and bridge all the gaps to ensure that the community liaises with the members of SAPS to create a safer community for all. We want to applaud all women for their place in society,” said Govender.
Ward 28 Msunduzi councillor Lucky Naicker's DA membership was terminated on Monday.
In a statement, KZN DA leader Francois Rodgers said Naicker was found guilty of all charges levelled against him, including damning allegations.
"The DA has concluded its investigation and disciplinary process into various allegations against Naicker. As a result of this, his membership with the party is terminated with immediate effect.
"Councillor Naicker will be afforded the right to appeal," he said.
He added that the DA will continue to hold its public representatives to a high standard and will not hesitate to act against anyone found guilty of flouting its constitution.
Responding to the DA'S statement, Naicker said he was never afforded an opportunity to defend himself. "I am a known fighter for minority rights and this does not go well with the DA. The DA has never supported the northern areas in matters affecting our livelihood, like residents' claims submitted for the December disaster," said Naicker.
