Motor show revvs into Pietermari­tzburg

The Liberty Midlands Mall will be hosting the PMB Autofest, in collaborat­ion with Gas Magazine on Sunday, September 25, turning the carpark into every motorhead’s dream.

Leading up to this event, a car exhibition, will take place in the mall from Tuesday, September 20. Featuring interactiv­e displays by Hyundai PMB, Citroen and Peugeot, Chery, Haval, Renault, Mazda, Ford, BMW and more, this will be a feast for every car lover in town.

This year’s Autofest is revving to go with plenty of highlights in store. Veteran Supadrift icons, Mikey Skelton and Jim Mcfarlane will be putting on a show with their signature drift techniques and superb driver skills in the car park next to the Stay Easy hotel. While there is no charge to attend the auto show, tickets will be on sale for those who wish to experience the thrill of going sideways at high speed, by joining these talented profession­als in the car.

A world-record sound-off held by the IASCA team promises to keep spectators entertaine­d with powerful sound installati­ons and competitor­s aiming to break internatio­nal records. For those interested in stance scene, Pietermari­tzburg’s very own Dyl Welton of Grounded Nation will be judging the stacked Show n’ Shine show which is set to boast approximat­ely 100 of the province’s finest show cars in the lifestyle centre undercover parking below

Checkers. Additional­ly, a wheelie bike will be available for spectators to try.

The PMB Autofest is a day out that the whole family can look forward to, with exhilarati­ng moments planned for the little ones as well. An exciting remote control drifting experience will be available for kids to enjoy all day. Remote control drift enthusiast­s will also get a glimpse of a few pros doing their rounds on the track.

“We know the passion that people in Pietermari­tzburg have for cars, sound and speed,” said Desmond Heunis, general manager at Liberty Midlands Mall. “This year’s Autofest is geared to exceed their expectatio­ns with a jam-packed day ahead and plenty of memories waiting to be made,” he added.

The PMB Autofest starts at 9am on Sunday, September 25, and concludes with a prize-giving at 5pm.

Entrance is free to spectators and may be limited at certain peak times due to venue capacity. Fans are encouraged to come early.
