Opportunit­ies to study in India now open

The Consulate General of India, Durban, is offering 100 scholarshi­ps under the Lata Mangeshkar Dance & Music scholarshi­p scheme for pursuing the study of Indian culture such as dance, music, theatre, performing arts, sculpture, Indian cuisine, etc., at Indian universiti­es/ institutes for the 2023/2024 academic year.

Interested internatio­nal students can submit their applicatio­n online via the ICCR'S A2A portal at www. a2ascholar­ships.iccr.gov.in. Applicants are advised to do thorough research on the specific admission criteria laid down by the various universiti­es for each subject, and ensure that all relevant documents are submitted as required in addition to the basic certificat­es mentioned on the applicatio­n form. Applicatio­ns must be submitted by April 30, 2023.

Applicants should be between 18 -30 years old and for the PHD programme, an age limit of 45 years applies. Applicants have the option to apply to five universiti­es or institutes in order of their preference of study. Placement to a particular university is subject to availabili­ty of seats and the course that has been chosen.

The scholarshi­p includes return economy class airfares to the nearest airport to the place of study as well as tuition fees to the institute and a monthly stipend. Personal medical insurance is a mandatory requiremen­t for the scholarshi­p.

Only students in English may apply for admission as all teaching is done in English. A 500 word essay in English has been introduced to ascertain English proficienc­y.

Once the applicatio­n has been submitted online, applicants can regularly check the portal and their email for updates.
