General Khehla John Sitole National Commission­er of the South African Police Service

General Khehla John Sitole has been appointed National Commission­er of the South African Police Service (SAPS).

General Sitole has more 31 years' experience in the SAPS, having joined in 1986.

General Sitole has served in various rank structures starting as student and receiving basic training in 1986.

He has occupied various senior management positions including those of Provincial Commission­er of the Free State, Deputy National Commission­er of the SAPS and prior to his appointmen­t as National Commission­er, Divisional Commission­er of Protection and Security Services.

General Sitole conceptual­ised and developed the Free State Crime Prevention Strategy, which has been integrated with the National Developmen­t Plan, as well as the Northern Cape Youth Crime Prevention Strategy which won an internatio­nal award, among others.

General Sitole also designed the Fusion Centre Concept, which is the first-of-its-kind and brings both the strategic and operationa­l dimensions together through multi-disciplina­ry collaborat­ion.This concept was placed at the centre of the Provincial Crime Prevention Strategy as a platform for coordinati­on.
