Who is new in gov­ern­ment?

Transnet Na­tional Ports Author­ity has ap­pointed Nozipho Mdawe as its new Chief Op­er­at­ing Of­fi­cer (COO).

Mdawe holds a Master’s de­gree in Busi­ness Ad­min­is­tra­tion from the Gordon In­sti­tute of Busi­ness Science and is cur­rently study­ing to­wards a Doc­toral de­gree at the Jomo Keny­atta Uni­ver­sity in Kenya. She be­gan her ca­reer at the Transnet Cor­po­rate Of­fice in

2001 and moved to Transnet

Port Ter­mi­nals in 2004, where she served for three years as the Busi­ness Unit Ex­ec­u­tive. She then moved to Transnet Freight Rail as Area Pro­duc­tion Man­ager for the Gaut­eng Clus­ter’s pro­duc­tion and op­er­a­tions ac­tiv­i­ties and later be­came Deputy Gen­eral Man­ager for In­land Op­er­a­tions. She has won sev­eral awards for her lead­er­ship and cre­at­ing ef­fi­cient prac­tices in the in­dus­try.

Mdawe was pro­moted and served as Gen­eral Man­ager: Min­eral Min­ing and Chrome be­tween 2012 and June 2015. She most re­cently served as Sec­re­tary Gen­eral of the Port Man­age­ment As­so­ci­a­tion for East­ern and South­ern Africa in Kenya be­tween July 2015 and

April 2018.

Her new role as COO will in­clude over­see­ing sev­eral ar­eas, such as marine ser­vices, avi­a­tion ser­vices and pi­lotage, port plan­ning, light­houses, se­cu­rity, emer­gency man­age­ment, in­fra­struc­ture, dredg­ing ser­vices, ship re­pair, port con­trol and port main­te­nance.
