TRAINING IN THE PUBLIC SERVICE
The National School of Government (NSG) carries the responsibility of training and developing the Public Service in South Africa. Its strategic positioning as a facilitator of training for public servants is crucial in meeting the transformation and human resource development needs of the country, and is fundamental to more effective people-centred service delivery at all spheres of government. The National Development Plan confirms that the uneven performance at national, provincial and local government results from the interplay between a complex set of factors including tensions in the political-administrative interface, instability of the administrative leadership, skills deficits, the erosion of accountability and authority, poor organisational design, inappropriate staffing and low staff morale. Therefore, the NSG is a call to build a capable and developmental state that will assist in correcting some of the inefficiencies in the Public Service. The NSG offers training in the following areas:
LEADERSHIP
Leadership courses develop public servants into leaders who care, serve and deliver, building leadership capacity across all in the Public Service.

INDUCTION
Induction courses give effect to the induction and orientation of all public servants in line with public service determinations, directives and regulations, Constitutional requirement, the principles of Batho Pele, and the values and ethos of the public service.

ADMINISTRATION
Courses offered under the Administration stream provide training that improves the administrative capacity of the state, for which there have been repeated calls for improvement.

MANAGEMENT
Management courses focus on technical skills for generic management competencies. These cover financial management, human resource management, project management, supply chain management, monitoring and evaluation, planning, and organisation design.
