The Touareg has the largest range of assistance, handling and comfort systems ever to be integrated into a VW. Technologies include the Night Vision assistance system, Roadwork Lane Assist, Front Cross Traffic Assist, active all-wheel steering, roll stabilisation with electromechanically controlled anti-roll bars, Iq.light LED matrix headlights, and Head-up Display. Compared to its predecessor, the new Touareg is moderately wider and longer, increasing luggage capacity from 697 to 810 litres (with rear bench seat up) but despite its increased length and width, the Touareg is now 106 kg lighter, thanks to mixed material construction (48% aluminium and 52% high-tensile steel).

The Touareg will initially be offered in Europe with a choice between twov6 diesel engines (170 kw and 210 kw) paired with the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system and an eight-speed auto transmission.this will be followed by a V6 petrol engine (250 kw) and a V8 turbodiesel (310 kw) in some markets, while a model with plug-in hybrid drive (system power of 270 kw) is being prepared for China.

According to Volkswagen the 2018 Touareg represents an important milestone in the largest product and technology campaign in the history of the brand, and VWSA has confirmed the new Touareg will be launched locally in the third quarter of 2018.
