THE SELTOS ALTERNATIVE

-

Korean carmaker Kia has quickly and quietly launched its Seltos alternative to add to the proliferation in the local crossover/compact SUV market. Hailed by Kia as “easily one of the largest and most practical compact SUVS available today”, the Seltos takes on contenders such as the Hyundai Creta, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, Mahindra XUV300 and the Suzuki Vitara. If Kia is to be believed the Seltos stands apart from its rivals thanks to its sophisticated, sporty exterior design and the space and capabilities of a traditional SUV – in a compact package. At 4,315 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, 1,620mm high and with 2,630 mm wheelbase the attractive Seltos is a large, practical compact SUV. All models are equipped with LED front Daytime Running Lights and fog lamps, six airbags, ABS, Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), rear park distance control sensors, a reverse camera, central locking and an immobiliser.

The entry-level EX model is powered by a 1.6-litre MPI ‘Gamma’ petrol engine developing 90 kw and 151 Nm of torque coupled to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed auto. The midspec EX+ is also available with the 1.6-litre engine, but only with auto transmission and 17-inch wheels.

The range topping Seltos GT Line is powered by the new 1,4-litre T-GDI engine delivering 103 kw and 242 Nm of torque paired with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT). It also offers a Drive Mode Select system with a 2WD Terrain Mode. A 1.5-litre CRDI model will be available from next year. Prices range from R353,995 (EX Manual) and R371,995 (EX Auto) to R389,995 (EX+ Auto) and R444,995 (GT Line).
