Road Trip

IN A NEW LIGHT

-

The extensively updated Audi Q5 will become available in South Africa early next year, fortified by a fresh new look, enhanced equipment, and an injection of the latest Audi technology, including new touch-screen functionality and OLED lighting.

Highlights include the latest Audi touchscreen MMI Touch control in the cabin and new next generation digital OLED exterior lighting for top-tier versions – a first in the auto sector. Design refinements further emphasise its genetic ties to the now five-strong Audi Q model family. While not confirmed, it should launch here with the familiar Sport- and S-line specification options, and perhaps in exclusive Edition 1 form for the first time.

Width and height of the midsize SUV remain as before but it is now 19 mm longer at 4,8 m, primarily due to its new, larger bumpers. The octagonal Single-frame grille is shallower and appears wider than before, and the air intakes are bigger and structured by trapezoidal insets.

A broad spread of TDI and TFSI engines will ultimately be available in the range, and the Q5 TFSI e plug-in hybrid will also be instated. The 40 TDI quattro is expected to launch first, equipped with a 2.0-litre fourcylinder diesel engine with power increased from 140 kw to 150 kw, and peak torque of 400 Nm. Coupled to a seven-speed S-tronic transmission, it propels the Q5 from rest to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 220 km/h.
