Now, Ford has released a followon of the Ranger FX4 – first introduced here in 2017 as a limited series – bringing the number of special derivatives in the Ranger Series up to … four (FX4, Wildtrak, Thunder, and Raptor). Based on the 2.0litre Single Turbo XLT double cab, the FX4 is available in 4×2 and 4×4 derivatives and spearheads the introduction of Fordpass Connect – now standard fitment on all new Ranger XL, XLS, XLT, Wildtrak, and Raptor models.
Using some visual trickery, a normal XLT is transformed to a FX4 with a sporty black mesh grille (derived from the Thunder), black mirrors and door handles, black 18inch alloy wheels, extended-leg tubular sports bar, and a practical drop-in bedliner with 12volt power socket. Inside, it receives a leathertrimmed dashboard, steering wheel, gear lever, and seats, all finished with red stitching and FX4 logos embossed on the front seats.
This art of illusion elevates “the unique character of this exclusive model to new heights” making it “a distinctive new model for discerning, lifestyle-oriented customers”. The FX4 is available in five distinctive colours – Sea Grey, Frozen White, Race Red, Agate Black, and Moondust Silver – and for the privilege to own what in effect is an upgraded XLT, Ford will charge you R618 900 for the 2.0litre Single Turbo FX4 10AT 4×2 model and R687 900 for the 4×4 version. Now we await the next special Ranger derivative … perhaps the Tremor, or the Lightning?
