SA Jagter Hunter

GOOD GUN MANNERS IMPORTANT

-

Dear Francois, Just a quick note of appreciation for your SA JAGTER/HUNTER Magazine – especially as us retirees receive it virtually for nothing. I am a sport shottist (metallic silhouette) and not a hunter, but there is much of interest in the articles.

There has of late been much emphasis on ethical hunting, and correctly so. What goes hand in hand with this is good gun manners and it would be nice to see an article on this topic. Many years ago, Man Magnum published an article on this – written, I think, by Tudor Howard-Davies – a lot of which was based on the old English ideas. Ek weet baie mense hou nie van die ou Engelse, maar hulle het darem maniere en gewoontes gehad wat ons deesdae selde sien.

Most of my working life was spent in the scientific equipment field, during which I was involved with the repair and calibration of both mechanical and electronic balances. With the arrival of electronic scales for reloading, I thought it worth doing an article on this, which is included herewith. If you think it is of sufficient interest to publish, please go ahead. I hope that my sketches, once reduced in size, will have enough definition to print. If you need any points clarified, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Terloops, ek het gedink julle nuwe papier is ’n opgradering! Ek verkies die dowwe voorkoms bo die blink. IAN DU RAND (Ian’s article on reloading scales was received too late for inclusion in this issue but will be published in an upcoming issue. Ian, many thanks for the kind words and the article. – Ed.)
