Snakes and sharks girls celebrate on MTV

- WENDYL MARTIN

MOVE over the young US divas who get their parents to splash out a fortune on their Sweet 16 birthday bashes, because two self-proclaimed socialites from Cape Town are set to take the stage.

Dstv viewers familiar with MTV’S My Super Sweet 16 definitely shouldn’t miss the offshoot My Super Sweet World Class, screening tomorrow night.

Local cousins Liz Stone and Elena Pappas, who count the Locnville twins among their friends, are the seasonopener hosts for the channel’s new series.

Think naked photoshoots, shark diving and fortunetelling in the build-up to the party.

And if that’s not enough, there was a live snake doing the rounds at Cafe Caprice in Camps Bay, causing a few screams from girls at the 150strong party.

The party girls told the Saturday Star prior to the show’s screening this weekend they were celebrating “our personalities and lifestyles”. The theme was “A Magical Garden of Eden”, reflected by having a dark and light side to the restaurant.

The girls had asked their guests to join them in a naked photoshoot prior to the event.

Stone said this was in line with the theme, along the lines of Adam and Eve.

And she added that no one got completely naked, although they did get to see their efforts projected at the big event in September.

The girls also had to perfor m a magic trick at the party which, for Stone, meant levitation. A fortune-teller predicted this would be a flop, a prediction that proved untrue.

To prepare their nerves, local illusionist Russell Fox advised the cousins to go shark cage diving.

The cameras managed to capture some drama on the day of the party, with Stone and Pappas arguing about dresses.

Stone said: “Elena and I are not prima donnas. In our dressing room we were fighting over what to wear. Only a tiny snippet made it in.”

Pappas said the party had cost R50 000. This was sponsored by a rum brand, al- though they had paid for their outfits themselves.

Stone is not concer ned about how their lifestyle is portrayed on the show.

“This is not to be taken too seriously. Yes, we are socialites,” she added.

Pappas added they were hoping for a good response.

“People should not think South Africans are so spoilt. We have a good lifestyle and this was a good party.”

Pappas believes the episode makes for good viewing.

“With the two of us, it is so much more interesting. You won’t recognise Caprice.

“The episode showcases Cape Town.”

The episode airs on MTV (Dstv 321) at 11pm tomorrow, and repeats at different times until the February 28.
