Valentine dates were a hit (and miss) affair

- BONGEKA GUMEDE

IT WAS a night of complete contrasts for two Durban women who won Valentine’s dinner dates with music artists Bullistic and Fiso this week by entering a single ladies competition on Gagasi 99.5fm radio station.

For both single lady Nokwazi Makhanya and notso-single lady, Hlengiwe Mthembu, the dates they had won started off on a high note as they were swept away in a Hummer to their red-carpeted location in Florida Road to enjoy fine food and entertainment, but only one of them was lucky enough to “feel the love” from her partner.

Makhanya said the entire night was fantastic, and her partner Sandile Ngcobo, commonly known as Bullistic, made her feel special and even serenaded her during his performance on the night. Mthembu on the other hand said if it wasn’t for her “uptight” partner Sifiso Ngcobo Fiso, the night would have been so much better.

“He was worried about his wife and also kept reminding me that I had left my fiancée lonely at home on Valentine’s night,” said Mthembu.

Makhanya said that she noticed that Fiso and Mthembu were not as relaxed as her and her partner, Bullistic.

“I entered the competition because I’m single and because I love everything about Bullistic,” said Makhanya. Bullistic also said that the night was grand. “It was really nice, we had good food, I love food,” he said.

He said that his girlfriend understood his work and did not mind that he was on a date with Makhanya.

“I do buy gifts for my girlfriend on Valentine’s Day but it was my first time going out to celebrate,” he said.

It was also Makhanya’s first time to go out on Valentine’s Day. “It was so amazing, I wish it could happen again,” she said.

Mthembu said she regretted telling Fiso about her fiancée as he kept rubbing it in.

Fiso said that he had just been joking around and had not meant to offend.

“I didn’t expect anything from Fiso,” said Mthembu. “I just wanted to have fun but he was no fun at all.”
